SWIM MEETS

BEST MEET INFORMATION

DUAL MEETS

Swimmers need to let their coaches know by 7 PM Wednesday night if they will swim in the Saturday meet. Consult your coach if you do not know what events to swim.

All swimmers may not get to swim all of their preferred events. We will make every effort to accommodate each swimmer.

Who swims in an event is decided by the coaches. Any questions should be
directed toward the head coach. These are factors that are taken into consideration for these decisions:

  • Preparation for the Championship meet at the end of the season

  • Attendance at practice

  • Swimmers trying new events and strokes
*(Elks swimmers are encouraged to try all events/strokes at meets throughout the summer).

The number of heats in an event may be limited. By league rules, only the short freestyle events (event #s 21-30) are guaranteed unlimited heats.

Elk’s home meets will always try to have a minimum of two heats per event if we have the swimmers.

League rules also limit each swimmer to three (3) individual events and two (2) relays per meet. Only individual events are scored for “High Point”.

DUAL MEET RELAYS

All swimmers will be given the opportunity to swim on relays.

Relays are an opportunity for new groups of kids to swim with each other and to experience the fun of competing on a relay. Times are not the priority for dual meet relays.

Relays will be put together each week by the coaches and will be determined based on practice attendance, effort in practice, and number of relays swum in previous meets. For the medley relays- the ability to legally swim certain strokes will also be a factor. Relays may change from week to week based on these things.

The final decision of who swims rests with the coaches.

FINALS RELAYS

Finals relays will be determined based on times (including prelims races), practice attendance, and effort in practice.

The final decision of who swims rests with the coaches.

Warm up times for each age group will be emailed before the meet.

Swimmers entered in the medley relays may be scratched if they are not timely for warm-ups.

SCORING AND RIBBONS

Only swimmers in the first heat can score points and place, with the exception of the short freestyle events (#s 21-30).

• A team can score points for all three (3) places in relay events.

• Most meets will award ribbons for places 1 through 6 in individual events and 1 through 3 in relays.

• BEST home meets will award ribbons for places 1 to 12 in individual events and 1 to 6 for relays.

• At away meets, only swimmers finishing in the top 6 places are awarded ribbons.

• Ribbons are available for pick-up by Tuesday after the swim meet in the swimmer’s ribbon box at the Elks pool.
