Boulder Elks Swim Team (BEST) is a Summer Swim Team which consists of about 200+ swimmers ages 5-18. Our season runs May 20-July 26 and practices are weekday mornings with an evening option for swim team. See practice schedule page for details.

Boulder Elks Swim Team (BEST) is a Summer Swim Team which competes in the Boulder Valley Summer Swim League  (BVSSL). There are six swim meets on Saturday mornings in June and July where swimmers compete within their age groups. Special meets are available during the season and weekday prelims and league championship finals at the end of the season.

To swim on Swim Team, swimmers must be able to swim freestyle and breaststroke for 50 meters each, unassisted and without stopping. Swimmers must have a basic knowledge of breaststroke butterfly.

Swim Team is geared toward swimmers who want to continue to improve endurance and technique in all strokes with an eye toward competition. Swimmers must also be eligible to swim per BVSSL RULES.

Pre-team is for children who are comfortable in the water unassisted, have some basic stroke knowledge, are developing endurance and proper technique and have some interest in competing.

Pre-teamers should be able to swim a length of the pool (25 meters) unassisted and without stopping. Usually the pre-team consists of swimmers under age 8, but occasionally there will be a 9 or 10 year old.

BEST partners with several other BVSSL teams to host 2 “Pre-Team Meets” which are held on weekday evenings during the season. Sometimes a Pre-Team swimmer will demonstrate ability and interest to move up to the Swim Team early in the season. If approved by the coaches, the team can make this change (with payment of the difference in registration fees). Most pre-teamers move up to the main team the following season.

The Head Coach will be able to help you determine which program best meets the needs of your swimmer.
